Whatever It Takes!

The Johnny Mac Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed by John’s wife, Jennifer after his death in August 2009 of 9/11 related cancer. John was an FDNY Firefighter and caring for others was what he did. In a list of final wishes, John asked to have a community center built in Blue Point, NY. In accord with John’s motto “whatever it takes,” the Foundation now works tirelessly to fulfill that wish. In addition, the Foundation supports other 9/11 first responder organizations. John’s last wishes were written down and electronically scanned.

Mitten Tree 2025The holiday season is a time for giving, and the Johnny Mac Foundation was proud to partner with the community for the 2025 Bayport-Blue Point Library Mitten Tree Donation!

Inspired by FDNY Firefighter John F. McNamara’s philosophy to “care about others,” the Foundation joined local residents and leaders to decorate trees with hundreds of donations of warm winter gear—all to help our neighbors stay warm this winter.

A Tradition of Giving Back in Blue Point

For the Johnny Mac Foundation, this event holds special significance. John McNamara’s final wish was to have a community center built right here in Blue Point, NY, and supporting local institutions like the Bayport-Blue Point Library embodies the spirit of local community building he envisioned.

Our Board Members and volunteers were excited to participate in this wonderful tradition, helping to hang dozens of hats, gloves, scarves, and other warm items donated by our generous community. This simple act of service reflects John’s motto: “whatever it takes” to help those around us.

The Power of Local Partnership

The Mitten Tree is a beautiful example of local heroes—First Responders, neighbors, and volunteers—coming together to ensure no one is left out in the cold. We were honored to see many familiar faces at the Library, reinforcing the strong sense of community that the Foundation works tirelessly to support.

This dedication to local care aligns perfectly with the foundation’s mission to support other 9/11 first responder organizations and to fulfill John’s legacy of selflessness. Thank you to the Bayport-Blue Point Library for organizing this event and allowing the Johnny Mac Foundation to be a part of it!
