Whatever It Takes!

The Johnny Mac Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed by John’s wife, Jennifer after his death in August 2009 of 9/11 related cancer. John was an FDNY Firefighter and caring for others was what he did. In a list of final wishes, John asked to have a community center built in Blue Point, NY. In accord with John’s motto “whatever it takes,” the Foundation now works tirelessly to fulfill that wish. In addition, the Foundation supports other 9/11 first responder organizations. John’s last wishes were written down and electronically scanned.

Fires and Drums GalaThe spirit of brotherhood and selfless service, which defined FDNY Firefighter John F. McNamara, was alive and well as Johnny Mac Foundation Board Members attended the First Annual Gala in memory of Billy Tolley, hosted by the Fires and Drums Foundation.

The Johnny Mac Foundation, built on the motto “Whatever it takes” to support First Responders and our community, was proud to stand with an organization dedicated to caring for those who sacrifice so much for us all.

Honoring a Shared Mission

The Firesand Drums Foundation has a powerful and critical mission that resonates deeply with the core values of the JMF. Their goal is to provide financial support to families of First Responders and Military members who are enduring a tragedy related to their loved ones’ duties.

This vital support—which includes direct monetary donations, transportation services, and other essential assistance—mirrors the tireless advocacy and care John McNamara provided for his fellow sick firefighters, including co-founding the New York City Firefighter Brotherhood Foundation and championing the Zadroga Act.

Like John, who rushed to Ground Zero and volunteered for Hurricane Katrina relief, the Firesand Drums Foundation ensures that when duty leads to tragedy, the families left behind are not facing the aftermath alone.

The Enduring Brotherhood

John F. McNamara’s life was a testament to the brotherhood of the FDNY—a bond that meant his fellow firefighters stood by his side until the very end, comforting him and promising to take care of his wife Jennifer and son Jack.

Seeing our Board Members support the Firesand Drums Foundation’s gala is a commitment to upholding that promise, ensuring the legacy of care continues far beyond the firehouse walls. We were honored to be part of an evening that celebrated the life of Billy Tolley and raised crucial funds to help hero families in their darkest hours.

We encourage everyone to learn more about the meaningful work of the Firesand Drums Foundation and support their efforts to care for the families of our heroes.

Thank you for helping us carry forward John’s powerful gift of spirit and his endless sense of duty!
